Darkness. I was back in it again. I just knew it would eventually get me, its long claws wrapping around me and pulling me under. It was utterly inevitable. But out of the blue there was a small light. I looked over to it and tried grabbing for it, but it moved away. I looked around in the glow and noticed that my side was all stitched up and then I remembered something. My voice. I shook my head and closed my eyes, screaming as loud as I cold through the darkness.

    "LEVI!" I screamed as a pair of arms held me down. I opened my eyes and noticed that I was in a dark operating room, a light shining down on my figure. I looked at the people and noticed Hanji and some other nurses. Hanji was moving around and she stuck a needle into my neck.

    "It's okay (name). Just hold on a little longer we are almost done." She cooed as I looked down at my opened side and fell back into the darkness.

    "(name). (name) wake up." A voice said as I slowly opened my burning eyes. I looked around and was face to face with Isabel and Furlan. I smiled and rubbed Isabel's head. She leaned into my hand and smiled. She felt oddly cold.

    "Oh (name) we thought we lost you. That would have killed Levi." Isabel said as she fiddled with my blanket. I nodded and looked around to find Levi asleep in the chair next to my bed, his hand in mine.

I smiled again but looked back over to Furlan and Isabel. "So how did the expedition turn out?" I managed to say in barely a whisper. A smile graced Furlans face before it fell into a frown.

    "Well (name), there is something we have to tell you." They said but Levi stirred in his sleep and opened his eyes. When his locked with mine they widened and he wrapped his arms around me. I looked and noticed that Furlan and Isabel were gone.

    "(name) I thought I lost you too." Levi whispered as he ran his fingers through my hair. 'too?' I thought as he pulled away.

    "Where did Furlan and Isabel go? They were here just a second ago." As soon as those words left my mouth, Levi's eyes hardened. I felt tears come to my eyes as he started to speak.

    "They were killed in the expedition trying to save one another. I was not fast enough. I let them die (name)." Levi explained as he leaned his head into my shoulder. I pet his head and softly cried.

Why. Why did they have to go? Why were they taken from us, our family, our lives? Why did the darkness get to them as well? I just can't believe that this happened to them and not me. Seeing Levi this broken breaks me as well, and I will not have that. I pushed up the things I have always wanted to say.

    "L-levi. Bring your head up, you did nothing wrong. We all have done things but don't need to blame ourselves for them. They just happened," I said as the memory of my mothers death came through my head. "They lived a happy life. Think of those things, but also the think of the bad times because that will bring us solace. Everyone must cope with the darkness at some time and theirs had come. Soon we will be there with them, so pick up your head and live in our places."

Levi's shoulders started to shake as he cried into my shoulder and me into his hair. We cradled each other in one another's arms. I looked up to the corner and watched as the shadow seemed to stretch over the floor to me. I smiled and closed my eyes, and fell into my own darkness.
